Irish historian, Tom O'Reilly, will discuss the Potato Famine, a pivotal event which has had lasting effects on the cultural memory and identity of the Irish people. Attend in person or via Zoom.

The Irish Great Hunger (1845-1852), caused by potato blight, led to mass starvation, disease, and emigration. The British government's inadequate response worsened the crisis, resulting in over a million deaths and another million emigrants. It deeply impacted Ireland’s population, economy, and fuelled anti-British sentiment and nationalism.
