Understanding Food Labels, Sugar, Fat, and Salt
Friday, June 12
2:00pm - 4:00pm
Main Library
Meeting Room A & BFood labels can be confusing, with claims like low fat, sugar-free, and low sodium that may not always mean what people think. In this class, we will break down how to read food labels, spot misleading marketing, and understand the difference between ultra-processed, processed, and minimally processed foods.
We will also explore how sugar, fat, and salt affect our health, including their role in overeating, obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Participants will leave with practical strategies for choosing healthier foods and simple tips for creating more nutritious meals for themselves and their families.
